In Western Europe, greater than 80 percent of all credit playing cards feature chip and PIN technology, and 99.9 percent of card readers are geared up to read them. In Canada and Latin America, the adoption price of chip and PIN playing cards is about 54 percent [supply: EVMCo]. The U.S. has resisted the change, making American customers and their credit score playing cards the “low-hanging fruit” for hackers. But not any longer.
In the end, the Web could begin to erase traditional boundaries between countries and cultures. However that type of world change is not trivial. It would take decades before we see a noticeable difference in the way we consider each other. Cynics may think even a device as helpful and pervasive because the Internet won’t overcome the hurdles we face in turning into a united world.
The results of this are refined. For one, Barasch finds that specializing in sharing photographs could make the process of taking photographs less pleasant. That’s probably because sharing makes us extra self-acutely aware. (Therefore, she recommends pausing a bit after a photo is taken earlier than you share it.) What’s unclear is how this perspective shift will change the best way we expect about our lives years down the line.
